Monthly Archives: February 2011

I’m working on my first mini book in 2-3 years. It’s still a rectangular base size (4×6), and I’m loving it, but it got me thinking what makes it mini? Is it the 4×6 size because I’ve got 48 pages prepped for this book + covers. I’m only going to be using papers from the new Echo Park “For the Record” The theme of the book is Wedding Moments. It includes a lot of 4×3 photos from all the wedding events + the save the date and 1 photo from DH’s bachelor party. I’m going to bind it with my Bind-it-All when it’s all done. I think I’ve used it only 3-4 times since I had to have it shortly after it came out.

I hope when it’s done it’ll then be something I can show our wedding photos to friends and family and then I feel a bit more free to start minimoon, continue honeymoon, start my Disney blog album, and then catching up on the photos I haven’t printed in over 2 years (because outside of wedding photos and some honeymoon, I haven’t made a print order since mid 2009)

Here’s the cover to the “mini” book:

What do you do when you lose your mojo?

I had been steadily doing a layout or two a day since the end of January. Recently I started a photo order. Which possibliy one of the things I hate the most. Editing photos, choosing which photos I want to scrap. Before Thanksgiving of last year my last photo order was over a year before that. So I’ve got a lot of Disney trips, other events, and a folder I found called “print me”. I’m finally getting all my photos in the same place and then organized, not that I’ve decided the best way to do that.  I think being able to print my photos at home and print 1-5 at a time that inspire me then, but I don’t really have the funds to buy one right now, but I’m sure I’ll put on on my birthday list.

I tend to browse scrapbook galleries looking for layouts to scraplift to get my back into the grove, do some shopping, or just walk away for a few days. I haven’t really sat down at my desk for 2 days. I also try to clean my work space when I’m blocked so when I’m ready it’s clean and ready to go, but right now I’ve got a stack of memorabilia that needs to be sorted from my honeymoon, and the layouts I’ve made in the past few months trying to pick the best ones that showcase my style for a design team call for a company I’d love to work with.

What do you do when you get scrapblocked or lose your mojo?

and because I don’t feel a post is complete without a layout:
All Together layout A wedding layout I did a couple weeks back. I used 4 4×1.75 strips of Basic Grey 1 for each member of the wedding party then I put their first initial at the bottom. I cut the title and initials with the cricut using a mac font I had on my computer. I then inked the letters and drew a thin brown border around it all.

Layout how to 1

A blank layoutI started with an 8.5×11 white base. I tend to start all my layouts with a cardstock base to give my album a “cohesive” look. I then added an 8×10.5 piece of patterned paper, in this case the the stripes. I then cut a 2nd pattern (the circles) to be 5×10 and since I used two fairly busy patterns I added a 10.25×5.25 piece of yellow under the circles and attached to the left side of the page about 3/4th of an inch in. I added a 4.5×6.5 white mat to the layout about 1.25 inches in and down. While I don’t normally use such a large mat I think with all the pattern it’ll help the photo shine. I’ll add the title under the photo and maybe a few journaling strips to the left.  I have a black and white photo I have in mind for the layout, but need to get it printed (on of my least favorite tasks)

You can easily switch out the 5×10 patterned paper for a cardstock piece and do a long bit of journaling, add a 2nd small photo to the left corner, or even add some ribbon to the photo mat or use a larger photo. (I love working with 4x6s so that’y why my photo mat is set up for that).

In case you’re like me and like to have all the measurements in one place:

1-8.5×11 cardstock; 1-8×10.5 patterned paper; 1-5×10 patterned paper; 1-5.25×10.25 cardstock; 1-4.5×6.5 photo mat

Little Yellow Bicycle Embellishments

Layout I sat down after dinner to sort and ooh and ahh at the wonderful gift I have received, and to try to find the papers online to order. Well I found an envelope album and everything clicked. I got enough stuff to create the mini album and then some…it would be great, but the last mini album I completed was in 2008..and it was an 8×8 “book” not sure I’d call that mini.  I know I can use the envelopes to hide long journaling in places, or I can challenge myself to actually complete it.  This picture has been sitting on my desk and I put a chipboard frame around it and I was in love. The banner just kinda fell there (I’m thinking I might add kiss to it) The title was a struggle. I wanted Kiss the Bride to stand out, but I also include “you may now” So I did the first part of the title in a small white sticker that is kind of hidden. Kiss and Bride were chipboard letters that I painted brown, and the is some thickers. The i’s are dotted with chipboard button stickers from LYB and the flowers were from the LYB chipboard shapes pack that I inked the edges in dark brown.

Two Peas in a Bucket prize

I participated in the CHA Winter challenges and I won a prize from one of their sponsors. I was excited to open the box to find tons of Little Yellow Bicycle embellishments and a mini album. I can’t wait to start playing with all my new stuff.

Layout a Day Feb Update

Is anyone else trying to do a layout a day this month or this year? Not sure I could keep it up all year, but I’ve been doing really well this month. So far I’ve created 5 layouts and a tiny minibook for a gift.  Some of my layouts have been simple, but I’m a fan of simple sometimes letting the photo tell the story. Although I hope to do more journaling this year.
